The following information provides all the Connected 5.x system requirements for both Macintosh and Windows platforms. The information includes recommended network configurations and compatible third party applications.

Mac OS Min Sys. Requirements for Version 5.3 or greater

150 MB of free hard disk space, 512 MB RAM, G4 1 Ghz or greater processor, OS 10.4 or greater. Screen resolution of 1024x768. NOTE: Reveiw the server software/network configurations, listed below in the "Recommended Server/Network Configurations" section, for sites with multiple concurrent users.

Windows System Requirements

80MB of free hard disk space, 512MB RAM, Pentium III or greater processor, Windows 2000 or XP Professional. Screen resolution of 1024x768 or greater.
NOTE: Windows Vista can be used with Connected 5.4 but our installer is not yet Windows Vista certified. A new installer is in the works for a future release. Previously reported problems with third party applications such as Excel and Outlook are related to Vista security settings and can be avoided by using the "Run as Administrator" option. To enable, right click on the Connected 5.exe application and select the "Run as Administrator" option.

Connected Server/Network Configurations

The following section outlines the required server/network configurations based on the platform/client operating system that is accessing the Connected data file. NOTE: Ethernet is recommended for all multi-user versions of Connected. Although wireless networking options are available, they are not recommended.

Macintosh Clients with a Macintosh Server
2-3 Users: Dedicated Mac OS 10.4 to server data. All connections to server made via AFP, not SMB.
4+ Users: Dedicated Mac OS 10.4 (or greater) or 10.4 Server (or greater) to serve data. Install and use the Connected ODB server software on server which uses and IP address to connect to data file.

Windows Clients with a Windows Server
2-5 Users: Dedicated Windows XP Professional computer to serve data.
6+ Users: Dedicated Windows 2000 or 2003 server

Macintosh and Windows Clients with a Macintosh Server
2+ Users: Dedicated Mac OS 10.4 (or greater) or 10.4 Server (or greater) to serve data. Install and use the Connected ODB server software on server which uses and IP address to connect to data file.

Macintosh and Windows Clients with a Windows Server
2+ Users: Dedicated Windows 2000 or 2003 server with Macintosh Services installed

NOTE: A dedicated file server is required for all multi-user versions of Connected on Mac OS. Mac OS multi-user versions can have access to the Connected ODB server software.

Macintosh Compatible Third Party Applications

E-mail: Microsoft Entourage (vX or 2004), or Apple Mail.
Spreadsheet: Microsoft Excel (vX or 2004)
PDF Creation: Mac OS X 10.3 or greater

Windows Compatible Third Party Applications

E-mail: Microsoft Outlook 2000, XP, 2003, or 2007
Spreadsheet: Microsoft Excel 2000, XP, 2003, or 2007
PDF Creation: PDF995 software by Software 995. A free or registered version can be purchased from www.software995.com. NOTE: This software currently does not work with Windows Vista.

Macintosh System Requirements for Connected 5.0 to 5.2.5
