Adding/Modifying
Customer Shipping Addresses - Jan 20 2006
To modify an existing customer shipping address, locate the customer in the Customers window and click
the Shipping Addresses tab. Click Modify and then click the plus sign at the bottom left of the address
list. Enter the new address in the fields provided on the right side of the window.
Once you have tabbed through all the fields, the address will appear in the address list on the right side
of the window. Click the checkmark icon or press ENTER to save your changes.
To modify an existing customer shipping address, locate the customer in the Customers window and click the
Shipping Addresses tab and then click Modify. Click on the Shipping Addresses tab and highlight the address
you wish to modify. Make the necessary changes and TAB through all the fields in the address. Once you have
tabbed through all the fields, the address will be updated. Click the checkmark icon or press ENTER to
save your changes.
> Assigning Profit Centers to Invoices or Sales
Orders - Jul 07 2003
If your company has enabled the profit center feature
when building thechart of accounts, profit center codes
can be assigned while entering Sales Order and Account
Invoices. If a profit center has been assigned to an Account
Invoice all Revenue, Cost of Sales, Commission, and Discount
G/L accounts will automatically be allocated to that profit
center. This feature can be very useful if your company
has multiple product lines or service offerings.
> Importing Credit Memos - Version 4.x - 07/31/2003
Credit Memos are imported into Connected by selecting
the "Invoices" option from the Import menu.
Use the same format as the Invoice import but make the
item quantities negative and the selling price positive.
Connected will recognize this as a Credit Memo during
the import. DO NOT mix negative and positive quantities
for the same Invoice/Credit Memo number.
> Adding/Modifying Customer Shipping Addresses
- 01/20/2000
To Add or Modify a Customer Shipping Address in version
4.x, locate the Customer and select Modify. Click the
Shipping Addresses button. Highlight the address you wish
to modify and select "Modify List Item" from
the Commands menu OR choose "Add List Item"
to make a new entry.
> Writing off Bad Debts - Version 4.x - 01/20/2000
In the Inventory Items window, create a Service type item
that is called "Write-Off". Ensure that the
items Sales G/L account is either Bad Debts Expense or
Allowance for Doubtful Accounts. To write of the bad debt,
create a Credit Memo that uses the "Write-Off"
service item for the amount of the debt.
> Handling NSF Checks that have already been applied
to invoices - Feb 08 1999
If you are recording an NSF check for a payment that has
already been applied to an invoice, enter a Debit Memo
for the Customer that Debits Account Receivable and Credits
the Bank general ledger account. When a new check is received
the payment can then be applied to the debit memo.

Configuring
your Check Form- 01/20/2006
The most common error when configuring your check form is
attempting to move fields prior to setting the form margins.
Prior to moving any fields, ensure that your margins have
been set. After your margins have been set, a Connected
compatible check form will require very little modification.
Maximum
Value for a Check Number - 01/20/2006
The maximum value for a check number is 2147483647 in
both Connected 4.x and Connected 5.x. Check numbers cannot
not exceed this value. In Connected 5.x there is an 'Electronic'
check type; any 15 digit alpha-numeric value can be entered
'Electronic Trans No' field when this type has been selected.
New
Canadian Cheque form Requirements - 01/20/2006
The Connected 5.x cheque editor allows formats (date)
to be compliant with the Canadian Payment Association
Standard 006 for business cheques. The changes come into
affect 12/31/2006 and all Canadian companies must comply.
> Importing CheckMark Payroll - Sep 22 2003
CheckMark Payroll includes a special Connected export
feature. To use this export, select Connected from the
drop down list of formats in the Employee Paychecks report
window and click the Text File button. This file can then
be imported into Connected by selecting Payroll from the
Import menu.
> Connected Pre-printed Check Form Requirements

If you are using laser checks the preprinted form must
be in stub check stub format and be on an 81/2 x 11 equal
part form.
Dot Matrix checks are not recommended for Windows users.
Macintosh users can download a special printer driver
to support an 81/2 x 7 stub check form from the software
section of this website.
> Maximum Number of Invoices on a Check Stub

The maximum number of invoices that can appear on a single
check stub is 12. If the amount of invoices being paid
exceeds 12, Connected will print a second check for distribution
to the vendor and will print VOID on the first one.

Sorting
the Bank Reconciliation by Check Number - 01/20/2006
To sort the Bank Reconciliation data by check number, click
the 'Description' heading. All check numbers will be the
be sorted in descending or ascending order.
> Saving/Loading Income Statement Templates
- Oct 6 2003
If an income statement with multiple selections and display
criteria is generated on a frequent basis, saving a template
will allow the report to be generated in a more efficient
matter. To create a template, select the desired report
criteria and select the button labeled "Settings"
at the bottom of the report window. Add and Save your
template description. The next time you run your income
statement, enter your period selection, select the settings
button, and click "Load Settings".

> Inventory Items Window Drill Down - May 15 1999
If you see a number below the headings PO, SO, or Committed
in the Inventory Items window, you can double click on that
number to drill down and see the related details.
> Inventory Movement Ledger Drill Down - Aug 31
2002
Like the Customers and Vendors ledger, when viewing transactions
in the Inventory Movement ledger you have the ability to
double click the transaction and drill down to its source.
> Reconciling your Inventory - Jan 15 2002
When reconciling your inventory if you find difference between
the value displayed on the Valuation report and the corresponding
Inventory Asset account the most common place to find the
missing value is Uninvoiced Purchase Order Receivings. When
a PO is received only the physical quantity and cost is
updated in the Inventory Module. The Inventory Asset account
is not updated until the bill is entered against the PO.
To find the amount of the uninvoiced PO Recievings, run
the Purchase Order Receivings report and choose to view
only uninvoiced Purchase Orders from the Receivings selection.

Clearing
Accrued Costs from Jobs - 01/20/2006
To clear an accrued cost from a job, load the job in the
Jobs window. Highlight the accrual to be cleared under the
'Activity Ledger' tab and select Clear Accrual from the
'Actions' menu in the top left of the screen.
Marking
Cost Details as Billed - 01/20/2006
To mark job cost details as billed for WIP (Work in Progress)
reporting the costs must be loaded in the 'Manage Wip"
window. A job is loaded in this window, similar to a bank
rec, as all costs are show as single lines to be selected.
Enter a date and invoice number that the costs are to
be associated with and then proceed to mark them all as
billed or select individual costs that are applicable.
By doing this, you will be able to run a back dated WIP
report.
> Advanced Password Security for Timesheet Users

By defining an employee code in the Passwords window for
each user of the Timesheets window you can restrict browsing
and timesheet entry for that user. Users with this setting
activated will on be able to view and add timesheets for
their own employee code. In addition, the Timesheet Transactions
report can only be run for their employee code.
> Clearing Accrued Costs from Jobs - Jul 31
2003
To clear an accrued cost from a job, load the job in the
Cost & Revenues ledger. Highlight the Purchase Order
accrual that you wish to clear and select the "Clear
Accrual" button at the top left of the window.
> Marking Cost Details as Billed for WIP Reporting
- Jul 31 2003
In version 4.4 or greater, to mark a jobs cost details
as billed for WIP reporting you must either invoice them
from the Invoice Creation window in the J/C or run the
utility BILL/WIP. The date used on the invoice or specified
when using the utility is the date the cost detail will
be marked as billed. By effectively managing these dates
you are able to generate an accurate back-dated WIP report.
> Errors
& Error Messages
> STARTUP/89 error - Jun 30 2003
This error message indicates that Connected has lost connection
with the last company data file it accessed. This is typically
caused by a disconnection from the file server. The message
is not serious and a user simply needs to relocate the desired
data file by using the "Open Company" command
from the "File" menu.
> "Failed to find the Print PDF extended commands
file in the Connected Extensions Folder. PDF output is disabled."

This error message appears only on Macintosh versions of
Connected. It can appear after the installation of Connected
4.2. It indicates that Connected cannot find the PrintToPdf
printer driver used for creating PDF copies of forms to
e-mail from Connected. The PrintToPdf shareware can be downloaded
from: www.jwwalker.com.
> "TelOmdex Error" - Jul 31 2003
Any error message that references Omdex or TelOmdex is referring
to a problem with the Connected external lists. By installing
Connected 4.4 and following the instructions under the heading
Pop-Up Lists on page 39 of the 4.4 release notes you can
remove all future occurrences of this problem by utilizing
the new list internal file lists.
> Entries appear on one computer but not on another

If your entries are appearing on one computer but not another,
ensure that both computers are logged on to the same data
file.

> Locating your Connected Serial Number - Sep
30 2003
Macintosh users can find their serial number by selecting
"About Connected" from the Apple menu. Windows
user can find their serial number by selecting "About
Connected" from the Help menu. Each method will display
the Connected splash screen that lists the workstation serial
number below the company information.
> Name and Password for New Data Files - Sep 30
2003
The User Name for a new data file always defaults to "MASTER"
and the Password always defaults to "CONNECTED".
Ensure that you change and modify user privileges to avoid
unauthorized access to sensitive information.
> Checking Your Data File for Damage - Sep 30
2003
When network crashes or power surges/outages occur your
Connected data file should be checked for damage. Click
