Mac Accounting Software on the Road at Macworld Expo 2012

It has now been four consecutive years since Accountek started exhibiting the Connected Accounting & ERP software at the Macworld Expo, now branded Macworld/iWorld.

The landscape has sure changed in the time we have been attending.  For example, in the first year, Apple announced that they would no longer participate.  We certainly thought that the show may be doomed but it has carried on each year since, albeit forever changed.

Every year we question our presence at this event – we aren’t as cool as some of the vendors on display.  Take the PDF Pen for iPad (who we were right beside), Doxie scanner, or the Opena iPhone case (equipped with the handy bottle opener), for example.   Still, every year we are able to help a good handful of new customers with their core business needs using our mac accounting solution.   If we could only count the times that we hear “I hate Accounting but someone has to do it!”  Of course we are happy to show off our application, even to those folks that hate accounting, because after all every business still needs it.

This year we were located in a new area – the OS X Zone.  This show within the show was targeted at attendees looking for OS X applications.  This new area was a great idea and helped separate Connected from vendors showing other great products (cases, chargers, bags, screen covers) that didn’t have much to do with the business users whom we are trying to connect with.

As with every year, the number one burning question we received was:  “How are you different than QuickBooks”? Aside from helping an attendee understand in conversation, we also have a great blog post from 2011 that addresses this very question.  Click here to check it out.

Aside from the actual event, it is always great to be in San Francisco.  The city is vibrant and lively with lots of great sites and people to meet.  From the great view of Union Square in the hotel we stayed in to the friendly stranger helping us order Sushi, San Fran is just a great place to be.   We also can’t forget to mention the great Cirque du Mac party that was for vendors and attendees alike. However, we don’t want to talk much about the next morning.

As with every year since the first Macworld we attended, we will continue to evaluate the merits of exhibiting at this event.  However, considering we are one of the few true Mac accounting solutions, it is very hard not be in the center of the Mac universe each year in January.
